Your TMJ & Sleep Solution Office Boise, ID

Pamela A. Powell, DMD, PA

With a stellar career that spans more than 53 years in dentistry, including 43 years serving the Treasure Valley and surrounding areas, Dr. Pamela A. Powell is a seasoned expert with a focus on the management of TMJ disorders, as well as the mitigation of sleep apnea and snoring. Her postdoctoral education, punctuated with high-caliber courses from the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation and Myotronics, testifies to her commitment to dental excellence, especially in the realms of occlusion, neuromuscular dentistry and aesthetic restoration. Dr. Powell, who excelled magna cum laude at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, coupled with an earlier degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of California, San Francisco, showcases a robust educational background.

Dr. Powell’s dedication to advancing in neuromuscular dentistry is evidenced by her active participation in specialized courses, study circles and scholarly engagements. She is a valued member of various respected dental societies, including a Lifetime member of the American Dental Association® and the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics.

After more than five decades in dentistry, Dr. Powell has developed a highly integrated approach to complex airway, sleep and neuromuscular concerns. She is the only DMD in the Treasure Valley combining Myotronics K7 neuromuscular workups with Vivos®, ProSomnus® EVO Guided, Aurum Labs Naturalfit appliances and multiple nights of sleep screening using the SleepImage Ring. Rather than providing the traditional mandibular advancement devices commonly offered by many dentists treating sleep-related concerns, Dr. Powell takes a broader, individualized approach that considers the jaw, bite, airway, sleep quality and nervous system regulation.

Dr. Powell also utilizes Fotona laser technology for NightLase®, Nasalase® and photobiomodulation, also known as PBM. PBM therapy can help support the body’s transition from a “fight-or-flight” state to a calmer “rest-and-digest” state without the need for medication. Her office also offers PBM maintenance sessions to help patients continue supporting that sense of calm and balance over time.

Marking a milestone in 1983, she was Idaho’s only licensed female dentist. Dr. Powell’s extensive experience — beginning in California and extending to academic roles — affords her a rich perspective in patient care. Her comprehensive treatment strategy includes collaboration with a team of healthcare professionals, ensuring her patients receive comprehensive and sympathetic care. She is also a Vivos® and Idaho Toothpillow provider.

Her accolades include being honored as the 2007 Idaho State University Health Care Hero-Educator, reflecting her significant impact on dental education. As the former Site Director at Idaho State University’s Family Dentistry Residency, her influence in shaping future dental practitioners is profound.

At the heart of her life is her family. As a mother to seven, including twins, a grandmother and great-grandmother, Dr. Powell finds joy in the warmth of familial bonds, the pleasure of shared meals and the indulgence in the sweetness of dark chocolate. While her days of jogging and skiing have given way to more leisure outdoor activities like walking and yoga along with family time, these moments remain a cherished aspect of her life.

Dr. Powell embodies the essence of a dedicated healthcare professional, an impassioned mentor and a matriarch who cherishes her interpersonal relationships with patients. Her successes are based on an integrated approach to multiple levels of complexity, allowing her to deliver thoughtful, individualized care while continually striving for outstanding dental results and a nurturing patient experience.
